Airports

Costa Rica has two international airports with daily flights from the US and beyond.

Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO):

Serves the San José area and is the closest airport to the wedding venue. It's about 30 minutes from both the ceremony and our recommended hotels.

Liberia International Airport (LIR):

Also known as Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, LIR is the main gateway to the Guanacaste province in the NW of the country and its top attractions. It's about 3 hours from San José and the wedding, making it a great option if you'd like to explore the north of the country before or after the celebration. Fly into one airport and out of the other to cover more ground without backtracking!

Transportation

Costa Rica is easy to navigate, and late January is one of the best times to visit, it's dry season, so roads are in good shape and travel times are reliable.

From/to the airport:

Option A: Call the hotel in advance to have them book a driver to wait for you outside the airport.

Option B: Before your trip, contact this (SJO Airport) taxi company via WhatsApp. They will be waiting for you. Phone number: +506 7097 9763

Option C: get on one of the orange taxis when you arrive at the airport.

For the Wedding

We will have buses to and from the hotels the day of the wedding. (More information coming soon.)

Exploring on your own?

Renting a Car

This is the most flexible option and our top recommendation for anyone wanting to explore at their own pace.

A few things to know:

Book in advance. January is peak season and cars sell out fast.

4WD is worth it, even in dry season, some roads to beaches and attractions are unpaved.

Shuttles

If you'd rather not drive, shared and private shuttles run between all major destinations. They're affordable, reliable, and your hotel can arrange them for you. Private shuttles cost more but offer door-to-door convenience.

Getting Around San José

Uber is widely available and reliable in the San José area and is generally safer and easier than hailing a taxi. **Make sure you book Uber Black or any of the more premium options.
